Since moving to our Chico office from the airport to downtown last year, we have continued to hire Chico State students and alumni, as well as launched an incubator program. A business Incubator program by definition is an organization designed to help the growth and success of entrepreneurial companies through support, mentorship, services, physical space and more.

Wanderful Media’s new building, its employees, physical space, along with additional resources in our Los Gatos office, make it a perfect incubator environment for entrepreneurs. Our first participant, Katherina Chiu, who was profiled in a Chico Enterprise Record story, “What Wanderful gave one entrepreneur.”

Our latest incubator program participant is Soul id, a social network dedicated to athletes. The idea behind Soul id started in 2013 when Ben Sampson (Co-Founder & CEO, and current CSU Chico student) and Greg Bellinger (Co- Founder & CTO, and CSU Chico alumni), met in Chico State’s entrepreneurial program. Soon they added Kyle Nelson (Marketing Director, and CSU Chico alumni), Eli Libby (Director of Relations, and current CSU Chico student), plus a development team.

They are starting with athletes who participate in such sports at BMX, Mountain Biking, Skateboarding, Surfing, Snowboarding, Skiing plus four others. Instead of one large social site encompassing all the sports, each sport will have its own community with content relative to each sport, giving athletes and fans a place to share their lifestyle through statistics, phots, videos, biographies, and other forms of media.

Soul id currently works with 20 professional athletes in development of the system and over 100 of the top 100 photographers in the industry of action/adventure sports. Soul id is currently in alpha testing and the platform in its final stages of development. They look to official launch by the end of the year.
